A friend of Qwik Kiwi, Michael Torckler is riding in the Tour of Southland again having ridden in the event seven times previously finishing as high as fourth overall. Michael has previously won the Tour of Wellington on GC and the KOM at the Tour of Utah. We will be publishing a daily interview with Michael after each stage to give you an insight into ‘Life in the Peloton‘.
QK: Tough day today I’m sure having missed the break. Did the team have a rider up the road? How did the day go for you?
MT: We missed the break which wasn’t great. I never really picked it to go away and stay away like that, so just one of those days. We contributed to the chase, but the gap just kept on going out all day. It was a pretty miserable day on the bike. Changing gears and eating was almost impossible with frozen hands.
QK: Sitting in 5th on GC, with Hayden Roulston sitting 6 seconds back, how do you play things tomorrow, especially with the ITT first up.
MT: I can’t see much changing tomorrow. There might be some reshuffling in the top 10 but I don’t see Gate losing it from here. We will throw what we have at it again though and see what comes.
QK: All the best for the final stages.
