Brick Workout

Monday Brick: Lance Watson’s Xterra Taper Brick

A brick session is a great way to develop your body for the rigours of transitioning from one discipline to the next. This version is perfect for utilising in the final weeks leading into an Xterra race – optimally about four to five days prior to race day.

Each week I will post Monday’s Brick session that you can do to enhance your triathlon performance. For a full understanding of my Level’s intensity system, please read my previous articles about intensity for cycling and running.

This workout comes from an article by Lance Watson from LifeSport Coaching in the July 2007 issue of Triathlete Magazine.

Lance Watson’s Xterra Taper Brick

  • MtB:
    • 45min Level II technical trails;
  • Run:
    • 5min Level III;
    • 15min CD Level II;
  • Stretching 10min

Start off by mountain biking for 45 minutes at Level II over technical trails.

Follow this with a further fifteen minutes at Level II for your Cool Down (CD).

Finish with 10 minutes of stretching to assist with the recovery.
