This week was a hurdle of a week, being the week before my nationals race I woke up Monday morning feeling more sick than I have in years. Somehow I pushed through working all morning but as soon as I got home I was bound to my bed and unable to walk without falling dizzy and nauseous. Even when I thought I was feeling slightly better I vomited four times for the first time in years securing the fact I wasn’t just feeling sick but had caught some sort of virus or food poisoning.
This lead to me sleeping most of the day and getting to bed really early while not being able to eat more than a slice of toast and jam. Tuesday morning was slightly better but paired with the fact I had a 10 hour working day it was a slog trying not to feel nauseous all the time. I still struggled to eat properly but got more than toast down for the day.
By Wednesday I was almost feeling better with just a few set backs and still slightly put off food, but I was able to get myself to the pool and cycle as I had missed training the day before due to not being able to carry it out.
I knew this would mean a heavier end to the week in training but I couldn’t bear thinking of completing it while not feeling myself.
On Thursday I was back to the track but unfortunately had to find a grass one, as a school competition was happening on the proper track but still managed to get it done. Due to the lack of food intake for the week prior, my legs and body felt depleted almost immediately in my first few training sessions back, making it much harder to sustain the way I usually do but still pushed as hard as I could to the end.
Despite this, my week was slightly interrupted and far from perfect. I’m happy that I got it done and the illness was only short term and not long term so close to racing, I’m now only 4 days from competing again so trying to get myself to that first start line as healthy and ready as I possibly can this soon after my half marathon training block 😊
