This week had both ends of the scale when it comes to how I felt during training. Coming into the week I had Monday and Tuesday double day training, Monday started off better than ever and although I have to start in the cold dark morning my mental game was awake and ready to push through the negative thoughts of having heavy legs and cold limbs, having a Level III fartlek run was on the cards and pushing through the warming up on the first rep I felt strong through the rest, still having to work but I was ready too and I did.
I followed up the training with a swim with both a 400m and 200m TT where at first I felt like I was going to sink or break into pieces but once warmed up again my mental strength got me through and I felt strong in the water as well.
Following through to Tuesday another day of a cycle and run again feeling pretty strong throughout, but by the afternoon I started to have a slight sore throat I was wishing was only that, but unfortunately Wednesday morning wake up for my long run, I knew it was more than just a sore throat, with feeling light headed and feverish, despite that I knew if it was going to get worse I might as well run when I feel the best so I pushed through knowing Thursday and Friday were rest and swim days.
I’m grateful so far, the cold has sat in my sinuses and head rather than chest. Following on Saturday I actually completed my first ever parkrun, I wish I could have felt slightly less nauseous but nevertheless it was enjoyable and good to get the first one out of the way to know the course and vibe for next time.
I’m only one week out from my 10km in Christchurch and honestly I’m not sure how to expect to run but either way it will be a good milestone to pass on the journey to my half marathons starting from June onwards.
Fingers are crossed for my cold to continue to track on the uphill, and to be as recovered for Christchurch as possible but either way I will put my best effort in knowing that not everything has gone perfectly smooth.
