Fuelling has been something that I have recently been trying to focus on. Trying to make sure I am getting the right amount of energy to fuel the exercise I am putting my body through as well as day to day activities and then refuelling post workout and throughout the day.

This week has been a week jammed full of biking and it’s been very strange, from only doing long rides with multiple runs to nothing at all, and now just cycling 6 days of this week. Being off training has made it easier as I just feel the need to do some form of exercise and sweat out some energy and biking when I got back was perfect to what I needed.

Over the past 2 weeks I have been away from home, after my race I stayed and had a holiday leading up to Christmas today, Merry Christmas . Over the time I was gone after my race I haven’t been running once, this is due to my injury in my foot and not wanting to prolong the injury for the further future so resting it has been the key.

I’m just less than a week away from my next race, which is a 4km road race against my age school students from around the country. Going into this race I have a bit of mixed feelings, after my last race where I felt I really peaked and raced at my best, I have had a decline post race where I have struggled through many obstacles that seems to get in my way of being my best for this upcoming race.

This week I swam at a new pool, I wasn’t planning on it but with everything going on I ran out of opportunities to go to one of my normal pools. My local one usually opens up beginning of November but due to it getting painted I only got one opportunity to swim in it, I was originally planning on driving the town over to where I have been swimming over the winter but realised their closing times were too early for me to make it with the time I had to go.

My long run this week went slightly different to normal but it worked and I actually think it was useful. When I went to set up my long run to start I noticed it wasn’t there meaning I hadn’t synched with my watch from my Training Peaks properly and to fix it I needed to have my computer, this wasn’t going to work as I had already driven to my start point and didn’t want to waste the time going back especially with the weather being on and off.

On this weeks long run I had a full day planned, and this began with my usual morning long run. On this morning I slept through my alarm by 30 minutes meaning I needed to just run my old route from my house if I wanted to make it for my next task of the day.

This weekend I completed my first longer distance race where I ran at a racing and competitive speed. I went into the race knowing how I wanted to structure it and with rough race paces set to my watch, I didn’t know what to expect with the other competitors and just went out with just a personal achievement as the goal.
