12 months ago I decide to do an Ironman, the problem was, I couldn’t swim and didn’t own a bike. How hard can it really be? Initially, I decide to train myself, I jumped on the internet and downloaded a plan…easy as!
About two weeks in to “coaching” myself I realised there was more to it than just swimming, biking and running a few times randomly throughout a week. It was time to consult a professional.
I contacted Ray who had been recommended to me by a friend, this is when things really started to take shape.

Thursday Training Plan: Ironman or Open Water Swim PB
I’ve taken my most popular training plan and given it a make over for 2020. I’ve taken the 12 Weeks to an Ironman Swim PB – Swim Faster with Smarter Training and I’ve modified to to expand the programme from 12 weeks and include an option for more than 3 swims per week.

I discovered Ironman simply by chance which I will describe in this blog, I was intrigued, in my mid-forties, but also over weight, high blood pressure, unfit, couldn’t swim, didn’t know how to use clip in shoes on a bike let alone know where the gears were in the brakes, ate crap food, drank to much alcohol and when I look back I was on a path of self destruction. So when I turned a leaf and signed up for my first Ironman ‘then’ decided to change my ways described above, people even told me or laughed in my face that I was kidding myself and couldn’t do an Ironman… This is my story to hopefully encourage others, Ironman motto after all is “Anything Is Possible”!

“I joined Qwik Kiwi in August this year, I had in mind to do Ironman in March 2016 and I decided that I’d tried other forms of remote coaching. Then I really needed someone who had done it and had put other people through it and so that is why I ended up with Qwik Kiwi. Since then I’ve done a wee bunch of duathlons, triathlons, and the half ironman in Rotorua and I’m looking forward to doing Ironman in March.
