Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 42] – Countdown to School Champs

I’m just less than a week away from my next race, which is a 4km road race against my age school students from around the country. Going into this race I have a bit of mixed feelings, after my last race where I felt I really peaked and raced at my best, I have had a decline post race where I have struggled through many obstacles that seems to get in my way of being my best for this upcoming race.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 41] – Swimming for Success

This week I swam at a new pool, I wasn’t planning on it but with everything going on I ran out of opportunities to go to one of my normal pools. My local one usually opens up beginning of November but due to it getting painted I only got one opportunity to swim in it, I was originally planning on driving the town over to where I have been swimming over the winter but realised their closing times were too early for me to make it with the time I had to go.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 40] – When Things Don’t Work Out – They Can Be All Right In The End

My long run this week went slightly different to normal but it worked and I actually think it was useful. When I went to set up my long run to start I noticed it wasn’t there meaning I hadn’t synched with my watch from my Training Peaks properly and to fix it I needed to have my computer, this wasn’t going to work as I had already driven to my start point and didn’t want to waste the time going back especially with the weather being on and off.

On this weeks long run I had a full day planned, and this began with my usual morning long run. On this morning I slept through my alarm by 30 minutes meaning I needed to just run my old route from my house if I wanted to make it for my next task of the day.

This weekend I completed my first longer distance race where I ran at a racing and competitive speed. I went into the race knowing how I wanted to structure it and with rough race paces set to my watch, I didn’t know what to expect with the other competitors and just went out with just a personal achievement as the goal.

This week I attended a school camp on an island as a leader for the younger year groups, this camp already had some high physical activities and lots of movement but I knew that I needed to try get my scheduled runs in if I wanted to stay consistent with my training and being my best for my race in the next 2 weeks.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 34] – When Magpies Attack

Over the past 2 weeks I have been training the majority of days leading up to a assessment and first aid course to become a fully qualified pool lifeguard, this training required both in and out of water training consisting different rescue techniques and tows, pool and facility maintenance and lots of reading on safety and procedures.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 33] – Train the Gains

I’m now in the month of my next race, and I am already feeling like a stronger and faster running from the increase in pace and power I have been using in the past 2 weeks. The pace at first felt less sustainable for a long period of time as I was so used to the old pace, but with the consistent use of the pace it has allowed my body to adapt and feel more efficient at the new pace.
