Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 90]: Settling into a New Routine

This week was yet another eventful week down here in Dunedin. On Monday we celebrated St Paddy’s and I cannot tell you I have ever seen more students dress up in green than I did then, it was definitely a new experience. I guess I better get used to for the annual event that it is down here. My week’s continue to be full with lectures and study which I have continued to stay on top of, which is definitely hard but achievable if I make sure to structure my week as well as I can.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 89]: A Typical Week

This past week has felt the most ‘normal’ if that’s a word I can use to describe my times here in Dunedin. I’ve been able to keep up to date with my study and have also continued to complete my training as planned. With my new focus on my 10km race in Christchurch in only 4 weeks it’s allowing me to have a few weeks of pure uninterrupted training with extra races I seem to be picking up recently.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 88]: 5,000m National Champs

This week I have started to find my feet. Through uni I have tried many new study techniques and ways to keep up to date and try to load the overload of information we are given into my head. Along with my uni I had a bit of different training on Thursday rather than what has seemed like a continuous streak of hill sessions. I was lucky enough to have the track and field nationals being held just down the road from my hall at the Caledonian track where I qualified to race the 5000m event.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 87]: First Week of Classes

Another week, another pile of stories to tell. This weeks training has once again been completed fully as it almost perfectly has a year ago in a couple of days, I can remember the exact timing of when multiple major moments in my life happened that helped me grow and learn many valuable lessons. One being that you are the only one who can show up for yourself, time and time again, along with that ever consistent work and dedication you reap the rewards.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 86]: 0-Week

A week of normal, settling and overwhelming. How can it be all? This week was officially O-Week for the University of Otago, from balancing college events, uni presentations, more events and raves every night there is definitely no consistency or normality around that. Slowly but surely I have been getting more comfortable in my hall which itself has hosted more activities than any other which makes it feel like a welcoming community, though I am still yet to find a like minded individual athlete and health wise.

Another week in Dunedin means another week of stories to tell. Over this past week I competed in the main Otago athletic champs, moved halls, and have met so many new people and experiences. I am more than lucky with the room I was given here at my hall for the year, it’s one of or the largest of the whole hall, with massive windows, and plenty of room for all of my gear for my training and hobbies.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 84]: Otago Senior Women’s 10,000m Champion

Two weeks into living in Dunedin and already claimed the Senior Women’s 10,000m track championship title. I only decided to enter this race one week prior, when I first met with the athletics club coach where he exclaimed how I should do it, and with Ray’s approval I signed up along with a 3,000m next weekend.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 83]: Settling Into Otago

So much new!
This week has had so much happen, I’ve now completed a whole week and two sets of long weekend training down here in Dunedin. Unfortunately, I have somehow created a streak of falling, where I fell off my bike while not looking ahead and for the correct path going off the curb, and this weekend in my long run rolling my ankle on a drain while grabbing my gel and going shoulder first into the ground, ripping the sides of my new shoes.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 82]: Summer School

I’m currently half a week into my summer school and I already am feeling the load, learning a subject I wasn’t taught properly and to learn so quickly is a lot but I know it’s worth the bulk learning in the long run when it’s time to complete the paper in a few months time.

Monday’s with Jessica [Ep 81]: Moving to Dunedin

My trip is underway, with the first of four days of travel done I have officially moved out of home, finished my job, and started Uni in less than one week. The changes are daunting but they are now bound to occur, I have organised and planned this week for months leading up to it, hoping that all sails smoothly.
